Teeth whitening is a convenient cosmetic treatment to transform stained or discoloured teeth into a bright smile.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dental treatment that can potentially reverse discolouration and lighten the natural colour of your teeth.

Teeth naturally darken over time and the consumption of coffee, red wine, and coloured foods can also discolour teeth. Smoking, some medications and poor oral hygiene are also factors that can discolour teeth.

When prescribed and supervised by your dentist, teeth whitening can improve the colour of your teeth and give you a sparkling smile.

What is a teeth whitening treatment?

Home-based teeth whitening treatments are a convenient way to a whiter and brighter smile.  Practice-based treatments offer the reassurance of a safe, expert treatment with great results.

At Abacus Dental Care Milton Keynes, we offer a number of teeth-whitening treatments including Enlighten™, a home based treatment.

After your consultation, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth that will be used to make custom dental whitening trays. You apply to Enlighten Evolution™ whitening gel inside the trays which you wear every night for two weeks.

A final whitening treatment at the practice completes your whitening, up to 16 shades lighter for a brighter smile.

How long does the whitening effect last?

The effectiveness of a whitening treatment depends on your individual teeth with the effects of treatments generally lasting several months.

Changing your diet to reduce the amount of tea, coffee and red wine you drink can improve the duration of teeth-whitening.

Is teeth whitening right for me?

If you feel self-conscious about your smile due to stained or discoloured teeth, whitening can be an attractive way to brighten your smile and boost confidence.

During your initial consultation, we will advise you if a whitening treatment is appropriate for your teeth. Whitening does not affect crowns, fillings or dental bridges.

You must be over 18 and have healthy teeth and gums to benefit from a whitening treatment. Teeth-whitening should only ever be prescribed and carried out by your dentist.

If whitening is right for you, your dentist will help you decide on the most appropriate whitening option and explain the stages of the treatment.
