HYGIENIST:
The practice Hygienist is an important member of our dental team. She will clean your teeth and advise you on the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums, adding importance of a healthy diet to reduce dental disease. She will also deal with more advanced gum problems in association with your dentist.
She can help you by:
- Making your mouth feel healthier.
- Eliminating and preventing bad breath.
- Giving you confidence to smile.
- Showing you how to stop decay in the early stages.
- Preventing bleeding and swollen gums.
- Removing tea/coffee, nicotine and wine stains.
- Advising you on good oral hygiene and demonstrating products that will maintain it.
- Helping you look your best for a special event in your life (eg. wedding) by cleaning and polishing your teeth.
- Helping you reduce the sensitivity in your teeth and/or gums.
HYGIENIST PROFILES
Anne Martin Powders Dip DH, RDH BS (USA) Med (Boston University) MPH (Brussels) Dental hygenist with special interest in periodontics.
Anne is an experiencd dental hygienist with a special interest in the treatment of periodontal disease. She regularly attends dental courses to update her knowledge and skills in advanced therapy such as implants, root surface debridement and in the use of chemical adjuncts.
Anne recieved her diploma in dental hygiene from Guy's University 1986, and then her BS dental hygiene from the University of Colerado USA where she lived for some years. She went on to recieve her master's degrees in education and public health. She has gained work experience both in private and in the public health sector.
Anne Offers a warm, friendly and gentle approach to dental care and looks forward to helping you to achieve a healthy mouth with a bright fresh smile.
Catherine Laws BSc (Hons) Health Sciences: Diploma of Dental Hygiene
Cathy trained as a hygienist in the Royal Air Force in 1984, after spending five years as a dental nurse. She obtained the diploma of Diploma of Dental Hygiene and worked within the RAF in several different bases bases in the UK, before meeting her husband Ian and marrying in 1986. She left the RAF in 1987 and has since worked in a variety of dental practise, both private and NHS, throughout the UK. As well as looking after Ian, she has two teenage boys and two dogs, so is kept fairly busy when not at work!
In 2004, Cathy obtained a first class honours degree in Health Sciences, which included health psychology and health promotion. Through her studies, Cathy became increasingly interested in the concept of dental anxiety and phobia. Cathy is starting a Master's course in Health Development in the New Year, where she hopes to research dental anxiety and how dental professionals can help to alleviate this common but debilitating problem.
